New Delhi, Leading News Service: A meeting was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review flood management preparedness. This high-level meeting was attended by Amit Shah along with various ministers and senior officials of the concerned departments. In the country, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and some other states face landslides and other rain-related problems during monsoons. Currently, Assam is facing a major flood situation. This important meeting was held in this background.
In this meeting Union Water Power Minister C. R. Patil, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Secretary, Department of Home Affairs, Water Resources, River Development and River Rejuvenation; Earth Science; Officials of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Road Transport and Highways Department, Railway Board office-bearers, members, Director General of NDRF and India Meteorological Department and senior officials of other concerned ministries were present.
Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and some other states experience landslides and other rain-related problems during monsoons. Assam is currently facing floods and lakhs of people are affected in many districts. Cyclone Remal last month also caused extensive damage in Tripura.
In Assam, floods affected crop areas with 3 districts
More than six thousand people have been severely affected by the floods in Assam's Nagaon district. 35 villages in Campur and Raha have been submerged and over 1 thousand hectares of crops have also been submerged. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, around 3 lakh people in 19 districts have been affected by the floods. More than two and a half lakh people have been affected in Karimganj district alone. 979 villages under 48 revenue boards in 19 districts of the state have been affected by floods. More than 3326 hectares of cropland in the flood-affected districts have been submerged due to flood water. Cyclone Remal has also brought heavy rains in Assam, resulting in widespread flooding. More than 29 people have lost their lives in the floods after Cyclone Remal.
