give permanent, not temporary, appointments to women; Supreme Court reprimands Coast Guard leader

New Delhi; News Agency: The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Indian Coast Guard for firing a woman officer and ordered her reinstatement.

Priyanka Tyagi was demoted from the Coast Guard in 2021. Priyanka had filed a petition against it in the Supreme Court. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud also criticized the decision to award short service commissions to women officers instead of permanent commissions. Citing its own decision to grant permanent appointments to women officers in the Army, Air Force and Navy, the Coast Guard chided that this discrimination should end. There is no use in talking about women empowerment. The court also clarified that it should be implemented.

Barriers to gender equality remain today

We have to be a beacon in this direction and walk with the country. At one time, women could not be advocates. Could not become a fighter pilot. There are still obstacles in the way of establishing gender equality. The court has mentioned in the verdict that we have to remove them.

The same post should be given again

As a Coast Guard, do you treat women like this, asked the court. Put Priyanka Tyagi back in the position she was in. The court also ordered to appoint them according to their merit till further orders.
