New Delhi; News Agency: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has started the search for the new head coach of the national team. So it is reported that Kolkata Knight Riders coach Gautam Gambhir is the number 1 candidate on BCCI's radar. But, it has now come forward that Gambhir has some conditions for this post.
According to sources, Gambhir is keen to take over as India's head coach; But before applying for it, the former India batsman has set 'one condition'. Sources claim that Gautam Gambhir is willing to apply after being assured that he wants full freedom to pick the team and the players he recommends. Apart from this, he insists that he should be trusted while deciding the captain and vice-captain of the team. It is understood that Gambhir does not want both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya as captain and vice-captain. So it all depends on how 'BCCI' takes a stand on this issue.
Many names are being discussed as the coach of Team India and Rahul Dravid's successor. VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir are the names of Indian legends. Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming are also in the news; But Laxman himself is not keen, while Ponting and Langer have clarified that they have not applied for the post of head coach. Even Stephen Fleming is still undecided.
The last date to apply for the head coach role is May 27. It is not yet known how many people have applied for this. The 'BCCI' had recently refused to approach Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer for the post of head coach. If Gambhir applies for the post and accepts the role, he will have to give up his position as KKR's mentor. However, Gambhir did not discuss this with 'KKR's owner Shah Rukh Khan. If he were to apply for the post, he would certainly take Shahrukh's opinion into consideration. Because, Shahrukh feels that Gautam Gambhir should stay with the 'KKR' franchise for the next 10 years. There were reports that Shah Rukh Khan had even offered a blank check to accept the Kolkata mentorship.
