Sanjeev Bhatt, along with social activist Tista Setalvad and former Gujarat Director General of Police RB Sreekumar, are accused of fabricating evidence in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. Bhatt came into the limelight when he filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging the role of then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Special Investigation Team dismissed the allegations. Bhatt was suspended from service in 2011 and dismissed by the home ministry in August 2015 for 'unauthorised absence'.
