The food items shown in films and advertisements are mostly fake. Food stylists prepare artificial food on film sets. This is done keeping in mind the health of the actors and their demands.
We see artists advertising biscuits, cold drinks, noodles and pizza-burgers. They are also shown consuming it on screen. However, actors do not eat and drink all these things. They just act like eating.
Sometimes a drop or two has to be added to make the scene realistic. In this condition, food stylists prepare alternative food. There is no oil, spices, flour and milk in these.
Once Deepika Padukone had to be shown eating samosa on screen. She placed a condition that she would eat samosa only if it did not contain potatoes and flour. Then the food stylist prepared samosa with the help of sweet potato and flour.
In the new episode of Reel to Real, we will talk about food styling in films and ads. The demands of artists regarding foods and stories related to them will also be highlighted.
For this, we talked to three food stylists Darshan Gokani, Heena Vara and Payal Gupta.
An agreement is made regarding what the actors will eat. Actors make an agreement while signing a film. It is written in it what they can eat and what not during the shooting. They are very strict regarding diet. Food stylists pay full attention to the demands of the actors.
Like the actors have to be shown drinking alcohol in a scene. This cannot be shown on screen and the actors do not even agree to do so. In this situation a drink that looks like alcohol is made.
Use water instead of oil for frying The actors give clear instructions that they will not eat items fried in oil. In such a situation, water is used instead of oil. By using water the vegetables do not come in the right shape. Then the work of the food stylist increases. They have to cook the vegetables in such a way that it is healthy for the actors and also looks good on the screen.
Fake meat is made using soybean, jackfruit and soya chap. In many films, artists are shown eating meat. In most of the cases this meat is also fake. Many actors shy away from eating meat in front of the camera. Food stylists make fake meat for them. Soybean, jackfruit and soya chaap are used to create fake meat.
Use of Fovicol to make the cream layer appear thick and dense. You must have seen an ad for pizza or burger. The cheese and cream shown inside is also fake. Fovicol is used to give false appearance. For this reason, the layer of cream appears thick and thick on TV.
Potatoes are used to represent ice cream The ice creams shown in films and advertisements are also fake. According to the food stylist philosophy, potatoes are boiled and then cooled first. Then they are mashed well. Then they are given the look of ice cream.

In place of the stars, their body double films the cooking sequence. In some films and ads, artists are also shown cooking. However, in reality this does not happen. Only his face is used. The movement of the hands doubles their body. This is done for the safety of the actors. Actors should not get burnt while cooking. May no incident happen. Apart from this, there is also the issue of his timing.
They come on the set just to give one or two shots. His body double does the rest of the work.
Anil Kapoor dropped 50 omelettes on the ground in an ad shoot Anil Kapoor was advertising a music app. In the ad, he was to be shown making an omelette and dropping it on the ground. Anil Kapoor took 50 retakes for that 30 second ad.
Some chefs in the background were just busy making omelettes, because in every shot the omelette had to fall on the ground. Obviously, what fell down could not be used again. A total of 50 omelettes were made in this way.

Akshay Kumar had eaten biryani after stopping the shooting Akshay Kumar is one of those few stars who do not shy away from tasting food during shooting. He is the brand ambassador of a refined oil.
Narrating an incident related to him, food stylist Payal Gupta said, 'I have worked with Akshay sir in an ad of Fortune. We had prepared biryani for this. Akshay sir found the biryani so delicious that he stopped the shooting for half an hour and started eating it. His manager had also taken our number that in future, whenever Akshay sir wants to eat biryani, he will contact us.
