The film 'Tum Bin', which was released in 2001, is now coming back to the theatres after 23 years. On this special occasion, while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, actor Rakesh Bapat gave his opinion about re-releasing old films. He told how important this trend is for the new generation and makes one feel responsible in filmmaking. Read some special excerpts from the conversation:

Nowadays old films are being re-released, like 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Tumbaad'. What do you have to say about this trend?

I think this is a good trend because it is said, 'Old is Gold'. It is very important for the new generation to watch these films. I can say that the films of our time have come a long way. Those films had a deep meaning. The writing was also good. The songs were also very good. The songs of today have only the opening line and some verses but they are not understandable. This trend takes us back to our roots where filmmaking was a hobby and not just a business.

Do you think old movies are beneficial for today's generation?

Yes, that's right. It tells you that there is a responsibility while making a film. Whether it is a love story or a war story, it is important to present it well. Earlier, whatever Salim-Javed or Gulzar wrote, it had a meaning and depth. I am happy that those films are coming back now, because the new generation does not know all this.

Some films flop at the box office but later become cult films. Do you think this trend will help people understand the meaning of good films?

Of course, I think it is important. Good films should be shown again and again. I don't really understand the films being made these days. I want to watch something that will teach me something or give me something good to see. It is very important to make sense while making a film.

How has filmmaking changed in the past 20 years?

A lot has changed in 20 years. Earlier, more focus was given to writing and singing. Then when films started becoming successful with audiences in the pre-2000s, it became factory style. Earlier, being in a film was very special. Now it has become very commercial. Earlier, we used to be nervous about how we would look when we grow up. But now everything has changed. Digital has changed everything. Now everything has become digital.

Have you received any more reality show offers after Bigg Boss?

To be honest, I am not made for reality shows. I was not ready for 'Bigg Boss' as well, but the makers convinced me. I don't understand reality shows, and why should I go where I don't understand. I am not in the habit of running away. Whatever I do, there should be happiness in it.

Does discussion about your personal life bother you?

No, not at all. Everyone has a personal life. It is a part. You should accept it with grace.
