New Delhi Leader, News Service : Ethanol Production : The central government took an important decision to allow ethanol production on Wednesday (April 24). Due to this decision of the government, the production of ethanol will be boosted. Ethanol production was banned from December 6, 2023. Since then there was a lot of excitement in the sugar producing sector. Now that the central government has lifted the ban, there is a possibility that the sugar millers will be satisfied.
It was predicted in December 2023 that the country's sugar availability and productivity would decrease. Due to this, there was a fear that the price of sugar in the country would increase. To avoid this, the central government immediately banned the production of ethanol on December 6, 2023. Due to this decision of the central government, questions have been raised on the ethanol prepared in the factory, the seed stocks, the agreements made by the sugar factories with various companies regarding the supply of ethanol. After this, the National Sugar Factory Federation brought all matters related to ethanol production to the notice of the Central Government. (Ethanol Production)
So the central government reconsidered this decision and changed the decision on 15 December 2023. As per the amended decision, it was mentioned that factories can use surplus ethanol and seed stocks required for ethanol production across the country. After that, the central government took an important decision to allow ethanol production on Wednesday (April 24).
Why did the government remove the ban on ethanol production?
Between December and February, Maharashtra along with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat received good rainfall. Therefore, sugarcane production increased by 20 to 25 lakh tonnes. After that, President of National Sugar Federation Harsh Vardhan Patil requested the central government to lift the ban on ethanol. Accordingly, the central government allowed the production of ethanol.
Speaking on the central government's decision to allow ethanol production, President of the National Sugar Federation Harsh Vardhan Patil said, 'Due to this comforting decision, an amount of Rs. From the sale of 38 crore liters of ethanol produced from it, around Rs 2300 crore will be available to the sugar mills across the country. So that the sugar mills will complete the sugarcane payments of the farmers in time.'
