Leader Online Desk : The Supreme Court on February 15, 2024 struck down the Electoral Bond Scheme. Also, the court clarified that this process is unconstitutional and ordered the Election Commission to provide information about the donors and the amount given by them. Meanwhile, State Bank of India (SBI) has filed a petition seeking an extension till June 30 to release details of electoral bonds. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud will hear the matter on Monday, March 11.

Ordering the immediate closure of the Electoral Bond scheme, the Supreme Court had directed SBI to submit the details of all electoral bonds purchased from April 12, 2019 till now to the Election Commission by March 6. Meanwhile, the Election Commission was instructed to provide this information on its official website by March 13.

The Supreme Court had directed the SBI to submit the details of money given to political parties through electoral bonds to the Election Commission by March 6. But 'SBI' has been accused of violating this. On March 4, SBI had filed a petition seeking an extension till June 30 to declare the details of the electoral bonds. The hearing will now be held on March 11.
