Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan starrer blockbuster film 'Karan Arjun' is going to be re-released in theaters worldwide on 22nd November. Recently, producer-director Rakesh Roshan had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar about this film. He told that when he told the distributor that he was making an action film with Salman and Shahrukh, 2-3 distributors had left the film. Shahrukh Khan was also not convinced by the story of the film, later he apologized for this.

Question- Shahrukh and Salman also had the image of romantic heroes. When you thought of making an action film with these two, what was people's reaction?
answer- 99 percent people did not want me to make a film, but I did not back down from my conviction. I felt that there could be no greater love than the love of a mother and son. With the same conviction, Rakhi spoke the dialogue that Arjun will come for me. This dialogue seemed believable to the audience that both her sons were killed in front of a mother and then she screams in front of God and says give me back my children, so the children had to come.
Question- You are the first producer who brought Shahrukh and Salman together?
answer- Both were new at that time. Both of them worked wholeheartedly. Salman and Shahrukh were doing only romantic films. I saw that both can do action also. There is not just action in this film, but there is a story in which they do action.
Question- There were a lot of changes in the casting of the film in the beginning, tell us something about that?
answer- Earlier, Ajay Devgan and Shahrukh Khan were in this film. Both liked the story. Shahrukh and Ajay came to meet me one day and said that they want to change their image. Then both of them chose their roles accordingly. Shahrukh liked action while Ajay liked romantic roles. Then I asked him whether this would benefit the film? Both became silent. I said that it would be beneficial if the film ran. If you guys change your image and the film doesn't do well, you will neither be from here nor from there.
I told that both are doing action and romance in this film. Both were not convinced on this matter. Then I cast Aamir and Salman. Then Shahrukh came and said that you have given me a break in 'King Uncle'. I will do this film. I told Aamir that Shahrukh wants to do it. I started the film with Shahrukh and Salman.
Question- When you gave narration to Amrish Puri, what was his reaction?
answer-Amrish Puri ji asked me that do you think Karan Arjun will come back. I said you will kill them so badly that they will come back in every birth. Hearing this he laughed very loudly.
Question- And what was Rakhi ji's reaction?
answer- Rakhi ji had understood that it was a good character. I narrate the script with complete dialogues to any artist. He liked it very much.
Question- Earlier the name of this film was 'Kainaat' and later how was it named 'Karan Arjun'?
answer- The film's dialogue writer Anwar Khan had said that the word 'Kainaat' was not matching with the story of the film. He said that there are two heroes in the film, so let's name them Karan and Arjun. I liked his suggestion. This title also sounded good, so we kept the title Karan Arjun.
Question- You have a good bonding with the distributor of the film, what was his opinion about this film?
answer- When I said that I am making an action film with Salman and Shahrukh, 2-3 distributors left the film. He used to think that how an action film could be made with two romantic heroes. Everyone has their own way of thinking. When the film ran, they came back to us and said that we had made a mistake.
Question- The songs of the film were of different flavours, tell us something about how they were made?
answer- Generally we explain the situation to the lyricist. The lyricist writes the song accordingly. I don't tell the situation, but the entire story of the film with dialogues. Be it a cameraman or a lyricist. This way they understand what I am making. Because of this Indivar ji wrote very good songs. In my films, songs take the story forward.
Question- What was the bonding like between Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan at that time?
answer- There was a very good bonding between the two. During the shooting of our film, there is such an atmosphere that everyone sits together and eats food. Be it a big actor or a small actor. Everyone completes the shooting of the film while joking and having fun with the technicians and actors.
Question- Any memorable moment during the shooting that you would like to share?
answer- The shooting of the entire film was memorable. Never thought that the dialogues of the film would be so popular. I was mixing the film at Rajkamal Studio. Yash Chopra ji also had an office there. Aditya Chopra and Hrithik are friends. Aditya used to come to the studio often. One day Aditya said, Uncle, you don't know what you have done. This film will break records. I thought that since he is Hrithik's friend, he must be feeling like this. After the completion of the film, I organized a show and called Salman Khan's entire family to watch the film.
Question- Hrithik Roshan was also an assistant in your film at that time, tell something about him?
answer- Since Hrithik was 14 years old, I used to tell him the stories of my films. It was important for me to know what Hrithik thinks about this. After the film 'King Uncle', when I was thinking about making a film, I did not know what story to make. Hrithik told me that you had told me the story of a mother and two sons. Then I remembered that I could make a film on this story.
Question- Where do you get the convincing power from?
answer- I don't know whether I bring it or God gives it. I work very hard. I am in no hurry to make a film so that if one film does well then I will immediately make another film. I don't make films to make money. Movies earn money and give it away. We should keep making films.
Question- What do you think is the most beautiful thing about 'Karan Arjun'?
answer- The emotional part of the film is the most beautiful. Apart from this, the locations of the film are very beautiful. I think sometimes such films get made. If you want to make such a film again, it will not be made.
Question- Do you think that a sequel to 'Karan Arjun' can be made?
answer- It can be made, but never thought about it.
Question- How did the idea of re-releasing the film after 29 years come to mind?
answer- Shahrukh and Salman are superstars. I thought let's release it again. Releasing it on a large scale in 2000 screens. Earlier it had a normal South system. I have re-recorded the sound in 5.1. Got DI of the entire film done. The film will look absolutely new. Now let's see what the audience says after watching the film.
