Actress Daljeet Kaur is returning to the screen after two years. She was last seen in the TV show 'Sasural Genda Phool 2'. Now she will soon be seen in the web series 'Chitta Ve', in which she is playing the role of a drug addict.

While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Daljeet talked openly about his comeback, new web series and upcoming projects. Read some key excerpts from the conversation:

There was some hesitation initially for this role.

I got this role when the makers needed a simple and real looking face. The story is of a small village in Punjab. He wanted a face that could fit into the environment there. Even though I am not very fluent in Punjabi, my mother speaks Punjabi, which helped me a bit in understanding the language and getting into the character.

When I was approached for this role, I was a little hesitant initially. The story is based on drugs and is very dark and emotional. I wondered whether I would be able to play such a strong and emotional story. But the makers expressed confidence in me and said that they want an actor who can not only show emotions but can also bring out the strength of the character on screen. There is a lot of depth to this character and the story is not just about the girl's struggle but also about her courage and transformation. I am happy that the makers chose me for this character.

Didn't even smoke cigarettes, playing the character of a drug addict was a challenge

It was not easy for me to play this character. I have always lived a simple life, which includes children's school, hanging out with my mom and meeting friends. When I read the script, I felt that it was completely different from my life. The story was very dark. I had never even smoked a cigarette before, so understanding drug addiction and portraying it on screen was a big challenge for me.

In the workshops we were taught how the body reacts after taking drugs. We were shown several videos for this and then had to work on our expressions and body language. There was a scene where we had to make a syrup-like substance, which was a symbol of drugs, and show the reaction after taking it. I tried my best to play the character of Manpreet very realistically and honestly.

I am afraid about my son Jaden.

Like every mother is worried about her children. Similarly, I am also scared. Nowadays children can become victims of drug addiction very quickly. Recently, an awareness program was held in my son's school, in which it was told that children can get addicted to drugs at the age of 6-7 years. I and other parents were very shocked to hear this.

I realized that it is very important to communicate with my children. They should be assured that they can share any of their problems openly with us. Being a mother, I try to create a friendly bond with my son, so that he does not hide anything from me. This show has also made me personally aware of how children can be saved from this serious problem. Yes, but the truth is also that there is fear about his son Jaden.

I want to spend more time with my son

Working in TV shows has always been very special for me. But now my priority has changed. When my son was small, I used to easily balance work and home. But now he is in his teenage years and at this age children need their parents more.

Although I still get offers for TV shows, I am now choosing only such projects which allow me to spend more time with my son. There is a lot of time commitment in big TV shows, which is not possible for me right now. That's why I've focused on small and flexible projects.

The problem of drugs is not limited to the film industry only.

I think it is completely wrong to associate Bollywood with drugs. The problem of drugs is not limited to the film industry only. This has become a big problem in the entire society.

Our story also raises this issue. It shows that drug addiction can affect anyone, regardless of background. We need to understand this problem and work together to stop it.

Traveling is a great way of healing

Now I am doing travel blogging. Traveling teaches me new things and gives me an opportunity to add new angles to my films and shows. I believe that traveling is a great form of healing.

Whenever I go to a new place, I try to understand the people there and their stories. This gives me a chance to make my stories better. My aim is not only entertainment but also to spread awareness in the society.
