Leader Online Desk: Severe Cyclone 'Remal' with wind speed of 135 km per hour hit Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coast on Sunday night. The impact of this cyclone has caused havoc in Bengal. Due to this, there is heavy rain and there has been a large amount of fall in many areas.
The cyclone made landfall southwest of Mongala between Sagar Island and Khepupara at 8:30 pm on Sunday off the adjacent coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Many houses in West Bengal have been destroyed and trees have been uprooted due to the eruption of Remal. Electric poles collapsed in many places. One person was injured after being found under debris in Gosaba area of ​​Sundarbans.
Severe Cyclone Remal over coastal Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal weakened 70 km northeast of Canning and 30 km west southwest of Mongla at 5.30 am on 27 May. The Meteorological Department has said that this storm is likely to weaken further. Cyclone Remal moved northwards at a speed of 13 kmph in the last six hours and hit the coast of Bangladesh and nearby West Bengal.
Cyclone 'Remal' has disrupted life in many parts of West Bengal with heavy rains and gusty winds. Many flights at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata were delayed due to this.
Heavy rain and gusty winds have uprooted trees near Sagar Island at Sandeshkali in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Relief work from NDRF is going on here.
Warning of torrential rain
On May 27, coastal districts of West Bengal and districts east of Ganga West Bengal bordering Bangladesh are likely to receive heavy rain at some places and light to moderate rain at most places, the Meteorological Department said.
