In another blow to the Congress, a party candidate from Odisha refused to contest the Lok Sabha elections due to insufficient funds and claimed that she was not getting financial support from the party. Sucharita Mohanty, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Odisha's Puri, wrote a letter to AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Friday saying that she could not support her campaign as she lacked funds. Another reason is that some seats in 7 assembly constituencies were not given tickets to the winning candidates. Instead, some weak candidates have got the ticket. Congress candidate for Puri Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha, Sucharita Mohanty has explained her position while talking to the media that she cannot contest such an election.
Congress Lok Sabha candidate Mohanty further wrote in the letter that, “Our campaign in Puri Lok Sabha constituency has suffered a major blow as the party has denied me funds, clearly stating that. If there had been a positive response (from the party), I would not have returned my ticket. The party could not fund me so I was asked to arrange my own resources”. So Sucharita Mohanty says I returned the ticket.
“…If there was any positive response (from the party) then I wouldn't have returned my ticket. I was told to organize my own resources as the party cannot fund me,” says Congress candidate from Puri parliamentary constituency Sucharita Mohanty who has returned the ticket.
