New Delhi, Leading News Service: 8 candidates from across the country have filed a complaint for EVM inspection and verification as directed by the Supreme Court. Sujay Vikhe Patil, a BJP candidate from Nagar Dakshin from Maharashtra, has filed a complaint. Interestingly, the Shiv Sena Thackeray faction did not file any appeal regarding the result of the controversial Mumbai North West constituency.
Sujay Vikhe has appealed against the EVM machines at a total of 40 booths. They include 5 booths in Shevgaon, 5 in Rahuri, 5 in Parner, 5 in Ahmednagar city, 10 in Srigondaya and 5 in Karjat Jamkhed.
40 thousand fee for verification of one EVM machine
Candidates who secured the second or third number of votes in the Lok Sabha elections can appeal for re-checking of the EVMs at the doubtful booths. For this, a fee of 40,000 has been fixed by the Election Commission for one EVM machine. If a difference in votes is detected in an EVM after appeal by the candidate, the amount paid is refunded to the concerned candidate. However, if there is no difference in votes, the amount deposited as per EVM is forfeited.
Mumbai North West Constituency has no complaints
The most controversial result in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra was the North West constituency in Mumbai. Initially, Amol Kirtikar of the Shiv Sena Thackeray group was shown as the winner. Then in the re-counting, Shinde group's Ravindra Vaikar won by only 48 votes. Many political accusations were also made from this verdict. However, according to the information given by the Election Commission, Shiv Sena Thackeray group has not appealed against this result.
Complaint of 8 candidates from all over the country
An appeal was filed from one Lok Sabha constituency each in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Telangana along with Maharashtra. The appeal has been filed from one assembly constituency each in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha assemblies. A total of 8 appeals have been filed by the second or third rank candidates.
