Chiranjeevi and Vyjayanti Mala honored with Padma Vibhushan: Received the second highest civilian award from the President; The announcement was made on Republic Day

The Padma awards were given in New Delhi on Thursday (May 9). President Draupadi Murmu awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, to Chiranjeevi and Vyjayanti Mala for their outstanding contribution to cinema. The winners were announced on the eve of Republic Day (January 25) this year. Chiranjeevi, Vyjayanti Mala and famous dancer Padma Subramaniam from the cinema world were selected for Padma Vibhushan.

68 year old actor Chiranjeevi has worked in more than 150 films. He launched Praja Rajyam Party, a political party in Andhra Pradesh in 2008. Chiranjeevi has received Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Padma Subramaniam is a Bharatanatyam dancer. She is also a research scholar, choreographer, teacher, Indologist and writer. Many films and documentaries have been made in Japan, Australia and Russia in Padma's honour.
