Leaders Online: Security forces conducted a major operation in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. Six Naxalites, including a woman cadre, were killed in an encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the forest area near Chikurbatti-Pusbaka here, a police official said. Teams of DRG, CRPF 229 and COBRA were involved in this operation.
The encounter broke out in the forests of Chikurbatti and Pusbaka villages under Basaguda police station while a joint team of security forces was on an anti-Naxal mission, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told PTI.
Security personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and its special battalion COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) were involved in the operation, he said.
“After the encounter stopped, the dead bodies of six Naxalites, including a woman, were found at the spot.” He also said that the search operation is still going on in this area.
The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Bastar Lok Sabha constituency of Bijapur district will be held on April 19. Before that, the security forces have taken a major action against the Naxalites.
