Chandrayaan-1 Mission Director Srinivas Hegde passed away









Leaders Online Desk: Srinivas Hegde, mission director of India's first lunar mission Chandrayaan-1 and former ISRO scientist, passed away in Bangalore on Friday. He is being treated in the hospital. He worked with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for more than three decades (1978 to 2014).

Srinivas Hegde had a long career with ISRO. 1978 to 2014 and participated in many space missions as part of UR Rao Satellite Center (URSC) or erstwhile ISRO Satellite Centre. Hegde was associated with many historic missions undertaken by ISRO. Among them Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008. It was India's first lunar mission, which made an unprecedented discovery of water molecules on the moon. After retirement, he joined Bengaluru-based start-up team Indus.

Hegde is undergoing treatment for kidney disease. He suffered a heart attack late on Thursday night. He was taken to a private hospital in Jayanagar, where he breathed his last around 12:30 on Friday afternoon.
