Cannes 2024: Indian film will compete after 30 years: Payal Kapadia's film 'All We Imagine as Light' will be shown in the festival

Filmmaker Payal Kapadia's film 'All We Imagine as Light' has been selected for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. It was announced by festival president Iris Knobloch and general delegate Thierry Frémaux during a press conference in Paris. This will be the first Indian film to reach this section of Cannes in the last 30 years. Mrinal Sen's film 'Kharij' was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1983.

Earlier, Payal Kapadia's documentary 'A Night of Knowing Nothing' had won the Oeil d'Or (Golden Eye) Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. This time the Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14 to May 25.

Apart from Payal Kapadia, British-Indian film producer Sandhya Suri's 'Santosh' will also be screened at the 77th edition of the film festival. This film will be shown under the Un Certain Regard section. Kapadia's 'All We Imagine as Light' will be screened along with 19 most awaited titles, including master director Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis and Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness.

What is the story of 'All We Imagine as Light'

Payal Kapadia's film is based on the life of a nurse. The name of the lead character who became a nurse in this film is Prabha. The story of the film revolves around his life. Prabha has been living separately from her husband for a long time. Suddenly one day she receives a gift given by her husband. From here his whole life changes and his whole life gets disturbed.
