New Delhi; News Agency: A candidate need not mention all his assets in the affidavit to be attached while filing the nomination form. A bench of Justices Anirudh Bose and Justice Sanjay Kumar observed on Tuesday in a case judgment that if an income would not affect the vote, the income is not very valuable.
In 2019, the Guwahati High Court canceled the MLA candidacy of Karikho Cree, the winning independent candidate from the Teju assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh. Karikho had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this verdict. The Supreme Court overturned the judgment of the High Court. MLA was restored to Karikho. A contesting candidate need not mention every immovable/moveable asset owned by him or his immediate family. The complainant (Nuni Tayang, the defeated Congress candidate against Karikho) said that Karikho had not mentioned his wife and three vehicles of his children in his income while filing his nomination papers.
