New Delhi, Leading News Service: Bhartrihari Mahtab, a senior BJP MP in the Lok Sabha, has been elected as the Interim Lok Sabha Speaker. This appointment has been made by President Draupadi Murmu. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju gave information about this by posting on social media handle X.
Kiran Rijiju posted on X that “President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Member of Lok Sabha Bhartrihari Mahtab as Interim Speaker to carry out the duties of the Speaker under Article 95(1) of the Constitution till the President is elected. Also, MPs Suresh Kodikunneel, Thalikottai Rajutevar Balu, Radha Mohan Singh, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Sudeep Bandopadhyay were appointed under Article 99 of the Constitution to assist the Interim President. He will look after the affairs of Bhartrihari Mahtab till the election of the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha and assist Mahtab.”
Who are Bhartrihari Mahatab?
Bhartrihari Mahtab is a seventh-term Lok Sabha MP from Odisha. He is a prominent leader in Odisha politics. Mahtab joined the BJP in March before the Lok Sabha elections. Before that he was in Biju Janata Dal. In 2017, he was honored with the Parliamentarian Award for his outstanding performance in the Lok Sabha.
