The megastar of the century Amitabh Bachchan has turned 82 today. Even at this stage of age, Big B is the most active among his contemporary actors. The shine of most of the stars of the 80's like Dharmendra, Jeetendra has faded, but that of Amitabh Bachchan is still intact.
On the occasion of Big B's birthday, we spoke to director Vivek Sharma, Sunil Darshan, Mehul Kumar and makeup man Deepak Sawant.
Know what Vivek Sharma said on Big B's birthday, in his own words…
Vivek Sharma has directed Amitabh Bachchan in the film 'Bhootnath'.
Today's generation should learn from Bachchan Saheb Vivek Sharma said- It is my good fortune that I am one of his close ones. Bachchan Saheb keeps very few directors in his personal zone. Just in June I met him in connection with a film. We are going to start a film soon.
Whoever comes to meet Bachchan Saheb, they drop him at the gate. Today's artists should learn something from this gesture of Bachchan Saheb. Bachchan Saheb is such a big superstar, but he respects everyone on the set, from small to big positions.
don't shoot on sunday During the shooting of Bhoothnath, his secretary Sheetal Jain had said that Bachchan Saheb does not shoot on Sundays. Some of our locations were available only on Sundays. I messaged Bachchan Saheb and requested him. He immediately got ready and shot for seven Sundays. This is against his rules, but he understands that no one's work should stop because of him.
When Vijay spoke in the style of Dinanath Chauhan, he got scared. Bachchan Sahab is like Agneepath's character Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in real life. First they talk about this and that, so that the other person becomes comfortable. Suddenly Vijay turns and says in the style of Dinanath Chauhan, tell me what is the matter? Then one feels a strange fear.
Bachchan sahib does not react during narration. It is not clear whether he likes the script or not. He has his own distinct style. Love the detailing of everything. Very involved in everything. Shows great interest in music also.
Big B sang a song on the request of Shahrukh Khan The idea of getting Big B to sing in Bhootnath was given by Shahrukh Khan. Bachchan Saheb was not ready to sing at first. He said that we would not be able to sing. Then he says that if you are speaking then let's try, but if you don't like it then replace my voice.
Although he did playback singing very well. Very few people know that Bachchan Saheb can also play the piano well. He has also built a small recording studio at home.
There is silence on the set as soon as Amitabh Bachchan arrives. As soon as Bachchan Saheb came to the shooting, the entire unit became completely silent. Everyone talked in whispers for two-three days. However, later Bachchan Sahab has a lot of fun on the sets. Keep pulling the assistant's leg.
They make someone a victim and have fun with him the whole day. However, he has a rule during shooting that when he shoots, no one should cross from behind the camera.
After eating the paratha he said – don't tell anyone. Juhi Chawla is not used to working in the kitchen. There is a scene in Bhoothnath in which Juhi ji makes parathas. She was not able to roll the parathas properly. We had ordered parathas from the hotel which Bachchan Saheb ate. He said, don't tell anyone that I have eaten the parathas. Bachchan Sahab likes samosas very much. Both of them eat samosas by picking them up with hands. He himself tells from which shop to bring it.
Sunil Darshan shared his experiences related to Big B on his birthday.
Sunil Darshan has directed Amitabh Bachchan in the film 'Ek Rishta – The Bond of Love'.
Our relation is with 'Saat Hindustani' only Sunil Darshan said- My relationship with Amit ji goes back to his first film 'Saat Hindustani'. This film was distributed by my father Darshan Sabarwal. His first superhit film 'Zanjeer' was also distributed by his father. I never thought that I would get a chance to work with Amit ji. He was beyond our reach. One day he suddenly got a call and expressed his desire to work in the film.
I thought someone was joking. At that time Amit ji had three films all ready: Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kaante. Apart from this, he also signed my film 'Ek Rishta – The Bond of Love'.
Was very nervous before the release of Zanjeer I remember when I met Amit ji for the first time, I was 13 years old. This is from 1973. Met Amit ji with father for the first time on Farida Jalal's birthday. Zanjeer was scheduled to release two weeks later. He was very nervous at that time. At that time he was going through a bad phase of his career. Father and the rest were asking the distributors that you guys must have seen the film, how did you like it?
Amitabh Bachchan does not want to give much support Amit ji has a very beautiful way of working. Got to learn a lot by working with him. In those days films were shot on negative. It was very expensive. Amit ji said- Son, take so much care that the negative does not get wasted. Make me rehearse as much as you want, but take less takes.
very supportive of manufacturers Once I had cast Rakhi ji opposite Amit ji. According to the agreement made with her, she will not shoot between 9 to 10 pm. Rakhi ji had given the reason for this that she watches 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' between 9 to 10. Rakhi ji loved the show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Amit ji suggested not to disturb the shooting. You leave them at quarter to nine and call them at quarter to ten. Install a TV with cable in their make-up van. During this time, she will eat food, watch the show and also talk about herself. Your work will also be done. Amit ji used to cooperate at this level. Since the beginning, he has a record of being very cooperative with the producers.
had lost confidence in the award Once Bachchan Saheb talked to me about award shows. He said that awards are important, but what is even more important is how much the audience likes you. There is no assurance of physical reward. When Dilip Kumar Sahab did not get the award for the film 'Ganga Jamuna', he lost faith in the awards.
Filmmaker Mehul Kumar, who has directed Amitabh Bachchan in films like 'Mrityudata' and 'Kohram', shared some special stories on Bachchan sahib's birthday.
Mehul Kumar has directed Big B in 'Mrityudata' and 'Kohram'.
Never thought that Big B would make a comeback with my film. Mehul Kumar said- Amit ji is so busy even at this age. He is the history of the film industry. As long as the sun and moon remain, their name will remain. No one can forget him. There is no ego in him. Never thought that he would make a comeback with my film 'Mrityudata'. Even if this film did not work, that is a different matter. This film was produced by Amit ji himself. Apart from this film, I also did 'Kohram' with him.
Amit ji said- Is there any hot script? Amit ji met me at the music launch of 'Rangeela'. He was not working at that time. He started a production company at the same time. He said do you have any hot script? I did not take that thing seriously because such things keep happening in the party. Next day morning, I got a call from Amit ji's secretary Sheetal Jain asking when can I narrate the script?
Do not sit in vanity van during shooting Amit ji does not like to live in vanity van. After giving his shot, he likes to stay on the set. He sees the shot of the actor in front. Once Dilip Sahab had told Big B – Never leave the set. The actor in front is responding to your dialogue in close shot. You can see what his expressions are.
Amit ji follows the same thing of Dilip Sahab.
Deepak Sawant, who has been doing makeup of Amitabh Bachchan for the last 50 years, also shared his memories related to him.
Deepak Sawant has been doing Amitabh Bachchan's makeup for 50 years
Even today we work with the same energy Deepak Sawant said- Bachchan Saheb works with the same energy with which he used to work 50 years ago. Read and rehearse your dialogues several times before shooting.
Bachchan Saheb waited for me for 45 minutes Actually, I reach the set two hours before Bachchan Sahab reaches there. I have never taken leave till date. Just couldn't reach on time one day due to rain. Actually, the shooting of Khuda Gawah was going on in Mehboob Studio. The shot was ready, but Bachchan sahib's makeup could not be done because I was late. The producer said that there is a delay for the shot, get the makeup done by someone else. Bachchan Saheb said – Wait, Deepak will come 100%.
After about 45 minutes I reached the set. Bachchan Saheb got the make-up done only after I arrived.
Once Bachchan Saheb scolded me The day my mother passed away, I went to do her makeup. Actually, Amit ji had an important shoot that day. When Amit ji came to know that mother had died, he scolded me a lot. He said what is this, mother died and you came to work? I told that mother always used to say that son, do not leave work. Everything is there only when there is work.
Worked in four films without any fees I have made films as an amateur. Never made films with the aim of making money. When the first Marathi film was made, Bachchan Saheb himself had expressed his desire to work from the front. When Bachchan Saheb was approached for the Bhojpuri film Ganga, he had initially refused.
At that time the shooting of KBC was going on. I asked Bachchan sahib to read the script. He said that Deepak your film is a hit. You will leave work and go away. I said that I will never leave your work in my life.
After Ganga, I made Gangotri and Gangadevi. Bachchan Saheb did not ask for money nor did I have the courage to pay him fees.
