Bhima Koregaon case: Honey Babu withdraws bail application in Bhima Koregaon case









New Delhi, Leading News Service: Honey Babu withdrew his bail application in the Supreme Court on Friday (May 3) in the Bhima Koregaon case. Honey Babu had filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court for his alleged Maoist links in the Bhima Koregaon riots. Honey Babu is now going to file a fresh bail petition in the Bombay High Court. Therefore, their lawyers said that they are withdrawing the bail application in the Supreme Court. (Bhima Koregaon case)

Former Delhi University professor Honey Babu has been accused of having links with alleged Maoists in the 2018 riots in Bhima Koregaon. In that case, he filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court. The matter related to this bail application was before a bench of Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mittal. The situation has changed as 6 accused in this case have been granted bail. Saying this, Honey Babu withdrew the bail plea on Friday. (Bhima Koregaon case)

Meanwhile, Honey Babu was arrested in July 2020 in the Bhima Koregaon case. He is currently in Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai. The case relates to alleged inflammatory speeches at the Elgar Parishad held on 31 December 2017 at Shaniwarwada in Pune. As a result, the police claimed that violence broke out the next day near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial in Pune district. One person died and many others were injured in this violence.

6 persons granted anticipatory bail in Bhima Koregaon case

Out of 16 accused in this case, 6 accused have got bail. Shoma Sen got bail only last month. Earlier Sudha Bhardwaj, Anand Teltumbde, Vernon Gonsalves, Arun Ferreira and Varvara Rao have been granted bail. Whereas Father Stan Swamy died in custody in July 2021.
