Bharat Ratna Awards | Chaudhary Charan Singh, M. S. Posthumously awarded 'Bharat Ratna' to 4 people including Swaminathan leader

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader LK Advani will be honored with the Bharat Ratna on Sunday. President Murmu will visit LK Advani's residence and present him with this prestigious award. Sources have informed that this decision was taken due to Advani's ill health.

The central government had announced to give Bharat Ratna to 5 dignitaries this year. After coming to power in 2014, Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh have been honored with the Bharat Ratna during the tenure of Prime Minister Modi. Now in 2024 5 persons were given Bharat Ratna. Due to this, 53 people have received this honor so far.

The family of former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur was present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today during the distribution of Bharat Ratna Award by President Murmu. His son and JDU leader Ram Nath Thakur said, “People of Bihar and the country are as happy as I am today. Nitish Kumar had continuously requested the Government of India to award the Bharat Ratna to Karpuri Thakur.”

Jananayak Karpuri Thakur, pioneer of social justice

Former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur, who is considered the founder of the concept of social justice, was honored with 'Bharat Ratna' (posthumously). Karpuri Thakur was the first non-Congress Chief Minister of Bihar. Karpuri Thakur became an MLA for the first time by winning the first assembly elections held in 1952. After that, he held the post of Chief Minister of the state twice and Deputy Chief Minister once. Karpuri Thakur is also known as a pioneer of social justice. Against this backdrop, a formal announcement was made by the President's Office that Karpuri Thakur has been awarded this year's Bharat Ratna Award (posthumously). The Government of India is honored to announce the conferment of the highest civilian award on late Karpuri Thakur, a veteran of social justice and an inspirational figure in Indian politics, the government said in a statement. This prestigious award is a tribute to the tireless struggle of Karpuri Thakur who dedicated his life for the upliftment of the underprivileged and fought for social justice throughout his life. Affectionately known as 'Jana Nayak', Thakur's simplicity in his personal conduct was very inspiring and his contribution to Indian politics was invaluable, the government statement added.
