Oscar winner singer AR Rahman has recently revealed that he had turned down the offer to meet Michael Jackson. Initially he wanted to meet Michael himself, but when his team did not respond for a week, AR Rahman got angry and refused to meet him. However, when he won the Oscar, Michael Jackson invited him to his house.
AR Rahman has also told that he was going to sing a song with Michael in the film Ethiran (Robot), but due to his death this could not happen.
Recently, a video of AR Rahman has been shared on the YouTube channel of Free Malaysia Times, in which he has talked about meeting Michael and winning the Oscar. AR Rahman has said, 'In the beginning of 2009, I was in Los Angeles. There I met Michael Jackson's manager. I asked him if I could meet Michael Jackson. In response, he said, yes, why not, we will send an email. There was no response from him in the first week. I was just calm, I thought it was okay.'
Further AR Rahman said, 'After that the nominations came. I was nominated for Oscar. After this I got an email. It was written in it that Michael Jackson wants to meet you. Then I said, now I don't want to meet him. I will meet him only if I win the Oscar, otherwise I will not. I was sure that I am going to win the Oscar.'
AR Rahman won the Oscar for the song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.
After winning the Oscar, Michael called me to meet him
On meeting Michael, AR Rahman said, 'I went to meet him the day after he won the Oscar. We met at his house in Los Angeles. My driver dropped me to his house. It was around 6:30 in the evening, the sun was setting and then someone wearing gloves opened the door. I was very happy because I had won 2 Oscars. I was on cloud nine. The meeting with him was good.'
On his meeting with Michael Jackson, AR Rahman has said that he had praised the song and discussed music. Michael Jackson had also introduced him to his children. Michael had told him that whenever he dances, he does it from the heart. Then he also showed some dance moves to AR Rahman. According to AR Rahman, this was an unforgettable memory for him.
The makers wanted to sign Michael for the song of Robot
When AR Rahman returned to India, he was working on the film Ethiran (Robot) at that time. He told the film's director Shankar about his meeting with Michael Jackson. On this, Shankar asked him why don't you sing a song with Michael Jackson. On this, AR Rahman asked Shankar in surprise, will Michael Jackson sing a Tamil song?
After some time, AR Rahman called Michael Jackson and offered him to sing a song with him. Michael agreed to the song, but unfortunately, before the song could be made, he passed away on 25 June 2009.
