Leaders Online: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal for expansion of National Cadet Corps (NCC). This will create additional 3 lakh cadet seats. The Ministry of Defense expects this expansion to meet the growing demand for NCCs from educational institutions across the country.
In 1948 there were only 20 thousand NCC cadets. Now NCC will have 20 lakh cadets. This will make it the largest uniformed youth organization in the world. This expansion plan includes the establishment of four new group headquarters and two new NCC units.
NCC is being offered as an optional subject as per National Education Policy 2020. Now the expansion of NCC will be a step towards playing an important role as the future leaders of the country and fulfilling the aspirations of the youth.
This expansion will ensure proportionate distribution of vacancies across all states and Union Territories and reduce the waiting list of institutes aspirants for NCC, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence.

This expansion symbolizes the dedication to shaping future leaders of discipline, leadership and service. NCC aims to make a transformative impact. To create an environment where the youth will contribute meaningfully to nation building. This initiative will strengthen the foundation of motivated, disciplined and patriotic youth of 'Amrit Genara'. which will contribute towards achieving the goal of 'Developed India', said the Ministry of Defence.
