Amidst the NTA controversy, the education minister's 'clean cheat'!

Umesh Kumar

New Delhi, Leading News Service: The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) conducted for admission to medical courses has been mired in controversy since its inception. The Tamil Nadu government was the first to oppose the implementation of this exam across the country. The proposal in this regard was sent to the Governor for his approval. However, as it was not sanctioned, the examination continued in Tamil Nadu as well. Now again, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been embroiled in a controversy as allegations of alleged paper-splitting and malpractice in the NEET exam are being made. There is a nationwide agitation over the granting of grace marks to 1563 students in the NEET exam results and the matter has gone to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on Thursday (13th) has ordered the re-examination of the students who got grace marks. The court has given these students two options either to accept the canceled mark sheet or face the re-examination. This order of the Supreme Court has given relief to students and parents. However, still the confusion created by the NEET exam does not seem to calm down. The credibility of NTA has been questioned in this whole case.

Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has dismissed the allegation of paper tearing and malpractices in the NEET examination. He has given a clean chit to NTA saying that NTA is a reliable organization in the country. A new controversy has erupted due to the education minister backing NTA. In Bihar recently, a student was detained by the police in connection with the NEET examination scandal. After questioning this student, some other people were also arrested in this case. If the education minister claims that there was no malpractice in the NEET examination, then the question has been raised as to why this student was arrested. NTA organization needs to file a case against the Bihar Police if the police arrested the student even though he is not guilty. However, NTA has not taken any such action.

NTA under suspicion

NTA had earlier said that the NEET 2024 exam results will be declared on June 14. However, the result was announced on June 4 before this date. The students and parents did not get an answer as to what is behind the announcement of the results ten days ago. While disclosing this, NTA said that the result has already been announced as it has been prepared. The NTA claims that with the early declaration of results, the application and admission process of the students will be completed quickly.

The opposition will create chaos in the parliament

The first session of the eighteenth Lok Sabha will begin from June 24. After the swearing-in of the MPs and the President's address, the discussion session will begin in Parliament. The discussion is likely to be confused by the opposition parties raising the issue of alleged malpractice in the NEET examination. It is clear that the opposition will trouble the Raloa government on this issue. However, the ruling party will be seen defending itself citing the Supreme Court decision. The longer the debate on NEET in the Parliament, the more the dissatisfaction of students and parents is likely to increase. Therefore, the issue of NEET exam confusion is going to be a headache for the BJP, which suffered a major setback due to the unemployment issue in the Lok Sabha elections.
