Producer Ramesh Taurani produced the Ajay Devgan starrer film 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh', released in the year 2002. Even though this film won two National Awards at that time, it was a flop at the box office.
Now in an interview, Taurani talked about the commercial failure of this film. He said that though the film was appreciated by the critics, it was a disaster at the box office.

Then five films on Bhagat Singh were released simultaneously
In an interview to Shosha, Taurani said, 'This film did not work at that time because by then five films had been made on Bhagat Singh. One of these, starring Sonu Sood, was released a week before the release of our film.
Our film also did not have a solo release. Sunny and Bobby starrer '23 March 1931: Shaheed' was released along with it.
Apart from this, two more films were being made. One was made by JP Dutta's production controller which was never released even after being completed. Another was made by Ramanand Sagar which he released on Doordarshan a year later as a director.
Ramesh Taurani and Ajay Devgan have worked together in many films.
It was a huge financial loss
Taurani further said, 'Our team was very disappointed with the result of this film. The entire economy of our company TIPS was shaken. We had made it in a budget of around 27 crores and it earned only 5 crores.
We had a total loss of Rs 22 crore which was a huge financial loss. However, the film received a lot of critical acclaim. It also won two National Awards.
Amrita Rao was seen opposite Ajay in 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh'.
Apart from Ajay Devgan, actors like Raj Babbar, Sushant Singh, Akhilendra Mishra and Amrita Rao were also seen in the film 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh'. The film won two National Awards in the category Best Feature Film in Hindi and Best Actor.
