Bengali actress Ritabhari Chakraborty says that just like Malayalam cinema, things like sexual abuse and rape happen in Bengali industry too. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee should also investigate this issue like the Hema Committee report.
She further said- The Hema Committee report which highlighted the issue of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry has forced me to think. Why is such a step not being taken in the Bengali film industry? So many of the reports that have come are similar to my experience or that of any actress I know.
Ritabhari said- the culprits are still roaming around without getting any punishment
Ritabhari has tagged the CM in her Facebook and Instagram post and accused a group from the film industry of sexual abuse. She has asked to expose such people.
The actress wrote, 'Actors, directors and producers with such dirty minds and behavior continue to work without getting any results. They are even seen holding candles as if they understand women somehow better.'
Ritabhari said- Isn't it our responsibility to save new actors from this?
Ritabhari further wrote, 'Don't we have any responsibility towards those young actresses who come into this profession with dreams? They are made to believe that this is nothing but a sugar coated brothel.'
Ritabhari shared this post on her Instagram handle.
'People should raise their voice against such monsters'
Ritabhari says, 'Let's expose these predators. I am calling my fellow actresses to stand up against these monsters. I know you are worried about your image, you are afraid that you will not be cast because most of these people are influential. But how long will we remain silent.'
'We are not here to satisfy anyone's hunger'
She finally wrote, 'Mamata Didi, we need such investigations in our industry immediately. We don't want another case of rape or assault before we are taken seriously. Being in this industry does not give any man the right to look at us as a commodity or for the purpose of satisfying his thirst for sex.'
