Sasirekha was an emerging artist in Tamil cinema. After a few small roles, she got work in the Tamil film Naalai Moodhal Kudikka Mattan released in 2016. Sasirekha married a businessman after entering films. She had a son from this marriage. However, this marriage broke up within a few years and Sasirekha became busy in her film world.
After divorce, she lived in the Madipakkan suburban area of Chennai with her family, two sisters and her 8-year-old son.
Sasirekha acted in the 2016 Tamil film Naalai Moodhal Kudhikka Mattan.
While continuously working in films, one day Sasirekha met Shankar, who runs a talent management company. Shankar used to get work for newcomers in Tamil cinema through his company. The meeting in connection with work turned into friendship and with time both of them started liking each other.
Like Sasirekha, Shankar was also already married. However, in 2011, his wife and his parents committed suicide due to financial crisis. During their frequent meetings, Sasirekha started seeing a life partner in Shankar. After being in a relationship for a few years, the couple got married in court in August 2015.
After marriage, Sasirekha shifted to a house in Madipakkam with Shankar. Shankar also kept Sasirekha's son with him.
Sasirekha and Shankar's married life turned into a nightmare in just a few months. Lovekiya entered their married life. 22-year-old Lovekiya had come to Chennai from a small town in Kerala to make a name in South Cinema. While looking for work, she met 36-year-old (in 2015) Shankar, who ran a talent management company. He prepared Lovekiya's portfolio by doing a photoshoot, with the help of which she started getting small roles in some films.
With the passage of time, Lavakiya and Shankar came into a relationship, which directly affected Sasirekha's married life.
Within a few months, Shankar threw Sasirekha out of the house to live with Lavakiya. Due to the breakup of the family, Sasirekha returned to her family, but she could not tolerate her husband's behavior. She started creating a ruckus outside Shankar's house every day. Many times they had a big fight during this time. There were many occasions when in Shankar's absence, Sasirekha went to Lavakiya's house and fought with him.
When even after all this, Shankar did not agree to live with Sasirekha, Sasirekha went to Madipakkam police station in November 2015 and filed a complaint of domestic violence and made many serious allegations.
After the complaint was filed, Sasirekha and Shankar were called for counselling. There was a heated argument between the two during the counselling, but after persuasion, Shankar finally agreed to live with Sasirekha. The two had rented a house in Madanandapuram near Kundrathur area to live together.
Sasirekha's married life was just getting back on track when one day Sasirekha, who had gone out for shooting, did not return home. Shankar, who had already decided to separate from her, was not concerned about where she had gone. However, when he could not contact Sasirekha for several days, he started getting worried.
About a month later, a decapitated body was found in a dustbin near IT Park in Ramapuram, on the outskirts of Chennai. The body was beheaded, which prevented the police from identifying it. Several newspapers and informers were informed about the incident, but nothing came out of it.
Meanwhile, Sasirekha's family reached Shankar's house in search of her. Shankar evaded the family's questions, which further confused the family. Finally, in search of their daughter Sasirekha, her family filed a missing person's complaint at the Madikapakkam police station.
After the missing complaint was lodged, when the police matched the details with the dead body found on the outskirts of Chennai, it was revealed that the body was that of Sasirekha.
After the body was identified, the police's first suspicion fell on her husband Shankar, because a few days before her death, she had lodged a complaint against Shankar. When the police started looking for Shankar, he was not found at his address. The help of informers was taken to search for him. Finally, on their information, Shankar was arrested from an apartment in Sholinganallur. During the arrest, a woman was also present with him in the apartment, whom he was calling his sister.
First of all, the interrogation of Shashirekha's husband Shankar started. In his statement to the police, Shankar said that Shashirekha had left home one day in January saying that she was going for a shoot, but she never returned. Due to already having a rift in their marital life, he did not try to find Shashirekha thinking that she might have returned to her family.
When Shankar was questioned strictly, many shocking revelations were made. Shankar told the police that in November 2015, Sasirekha had filed a complaint of domestic violence against him. On the advice of the police and to close the case, he agreed to keep Sasirekha with him. After some time, he convinced Sasirekha that he would keep his girlfriend Lavakiya in the same house with her.
For some time, all three lived in the same house. However, there were constant conflicts between the three. Sasirekha did not want Shankar to have a relationship with his girlfriend Lavakiya.
Meanwhile, Sasirekha got pregnant. When Shankar and his girlfriend came to know about this, quarrels started between them, because Shankar had told his girlfriend that he does not consider Sasirekha as his wife.
When Shankar's fights with his girlfriend started increasing, he started taking his anger out on Sasirekha and started beating her frequently.

Like every day, Sasirekha was quarreling with Shankar over his affair. The argument escalated so much that he beat Sasirekha brutally. During the fight, Shankar attacked her on the head, due to which she fainted. After this, Shankar strangled her to death while she was fully conscious.
Sasirekha's girlfriend Lavakiya was also present during the murder. With the help of Lavakiya, Shankar beheaded Sasirekha. They wrapped Sasirekha's torso in a sheet at home and hid it in the bathroom. A few hours after Sasirekha's death, the two got a chance and left the house with her head, which they threw in the Kundrathur canal. Later, they threw her torso in the dustbin.
Following Shankar's information, the police recovered Sasirekha's head from the canal after a long struggle. During the investigation, the police found many shocking information about Shankar. Shankar used to ask for favours from girls under the guise of a talent management company. He used to get pictures of girls clicked in the name of photoshoots and portfolio making, which he used for wrong purposes. He blackmailed many girls by threatening to misuse their pictures.
In 2011, Shankar was also considered a suspect in the suicide case of his family members and his first wife. The allegations were that he either killed them and made it look like a suicide or he instigated them to commit suicide.
His relationship with Sasirekha also started with the promise of getting her a job, however he never helped Sasirekha. In the complaint filed, Sasirekha also said that Shankar had cheated her of lakhs of rupees in the name of getting her a job in films and had kidnapped her son. Similarly, his girlfriend Lavakiya who was 14 years younger to him was also living with him in the hope of getting her a job. Ramesh and his girlfriend are in jail on murder charges.
