Karachi : A court in Sindh has ordered a man to be given 80 lashes for falsely accusing his wife of having a child that is not his and that she had an extramarital affair.
According to a report by Pakistani newspaper The Dawn, Additional District Sessions Judge Shahnaz Bohio handed down the sentence after all the allegations leveled by accused Farid against his wife were proved to be false. The Qazhf Act of 1979 provides for a punishment of 80 lashes for making a false claim. The court also said that once the punishment is approved by the Shariat Court, the accused cannot challenge the punishment in the higher court. Farid divorced his wife saying that the daughter born a year after marriage was not his. She appealed to the court against that.
