The stories of the drinking habit of famous dialogue writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar are famous in the film industry. Javed himself has admitted in many interviews that he used to finish a bottle of alcohol every day. Now in a chat show, he has told that the devil inside him used to come out after drinking alcohol.
Recently, in an interview given to Nikhil Taneja in the Be a Man Yaar chat show, Javed Akhtar talked about the reason for drinking alcohol. He was asked if he used to drink alcohol to bring out his inner emotions. To this, Javed sahab replied, 'Yes, I had many hidden emotions inside me. The anger you talk about or the bitterness you talk about, it was inside me. This is the reason why I often became an extremely aggressive person after drinking alcohol, which I am not usually, nor was I ever.'
Javed sahab further said, 'Whenever I was not drunk, I was never aggressive. When I used to drink, another devil used to come out inside me. I have done 2-4 good things in my life. One of them is that I drank alcohol for the last time on 31st July 1991 and I never drank alcohol after that. I never even took a sip of champagne. People cheer and put alcohol on their lips, but I did not even do that. I did not even put my lips in alcohol.'

Some time ago, Javed Akhtar had told the real reason for quitting alcohol. He had told in Arbaaz Khan's chat show The Invincible that at one time he used to drink a bottle of alcohol daily, but one day suddenly he decided to quit alcohol. Actually, once he had gone to London with his wife Shabana Azmi. Javed sahab drank a lot of alcohol in his flat in London. As soon as he went to Shabana, the smell gave a strange reaction. After seeing Shabana's reaction, the drunk Javed sahab first asked for breakfast and then said that I will never drink alcohol after today. Since then till today, Javed sahab has never touched alcohol.
