Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Manipur

New Delhi, Leading News Service: A high-level meeting was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (16) to review the security situation amid the communal conflict in Manipur. Home Minister Amit Shah suggested that all possible efforts should be made to establish peace in Manipur. Earlier on Sunday, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uike had met the Home Minister to discuss the situation in the northeastern state.

On 3 May 2023 in Manipur, the Meitei community had demanded the status of a Scheduled Tribe. This demand was opposed by local people. After that communal violence erupted. Since then, more than 200 people from both the Kuki and Meitei communities have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict. The Meitei community accounts for 53% of the total state population in Manipur. They live mainly in the Imphal valley, while tribal people, including the Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40% and live mainly in the hilly areas. So there is a demand that this conflict should stop somewhere and people should get due justice. This meeting was held in this background.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, General Upendra Dwivedi, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Manipur Security Adviser Kuldeep Singh, Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, Director General of Police, Manipur Rajeev Singh, Director General of Assam Rifles Pradeep attended the review meeting of Home Minister Amit Shah.
