Tokyo; News Agency: Japan has a law of keeping the same surname after marriage. Six couples have filed a case against the Japanese government in the Supreme Court against this law. The petition said that this law is causing hardship and especially women are facing difficulties to advance their personal careers.
The same surname law is being used to create a male-dominated social system in Japan. After marriage, women face problems in availing many basic services and facilities due to various laws and business name. The petition said that even after divorce, women face difficulties in getting custody of their children. In fact, two petitions were filed earlier against this law in Japan. But they were rejected. But this time, the managers in many big companies have demanded to change the law and it has been said that married couples have many surname options available.
