New Delhi; Leading News Service: The 'Padma Award-2024' was presented by President Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the capital Delhi on Thursday. A total of 65 awards have been presented. In this, six dignitaries from Maharashtra were honored with the Padma Award for their outstanding contribution in their field.
The Padma Award was conferred by the President in a grand ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior Union Ministers and dignitaries attended the event. Two Padma Vibhushans, eight Padma Bhushans and 55 Padma Shri awards were conferred in the second phase of the Padma Awards ceremony.
The civilian award Padma Vibhushan was conferred on Tamil superstar Chiranjeevi and actress-dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali.
Six dignitaries from the state of Maharashtra were felicitated for their invaluable contribution in various fields. Hormusji N Kama in the field of literature, education and journalism, Dr. Ashwin Mehta in the field of medicine, Kundan Vyas in the field of literature, education and journalism, Shankar Baba Papalkar in the field of social service, Uday Vishwanath Deshpande in the field of sports and Mallakhamb training, Chandrasekhar Mahadevarao Meshram was awarded 'Padma Shri' for outstanding contribution in the field of medicine.
