His father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was also an elected member of the Lower House from Amethi from 1981 till his death. In 1991. Sonia Gandhi contested the first election from there in 1999.
KL Sharma will be going head-to-head with Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul in the 2019 elections to break the Congress stronghold. Polling in the 5th phase of elections in Amethi and Rae Bareli will be held on May 20. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
