Dinesh Karthik Dinesh Karthik to retire from IPL; Saying goodbye to international cricket?


Leaders Online Desk: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is gearing up for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from March 22. After this year's IPL, Dinesh will decide to retire internationally. Dinesh is currently 38 years old and plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dinesh Karthik has played in all 16 seasons of IPL since 2008. According to a BCCI source, '2024 is likely to see Dinesh Karthik playing his last IPL season. Dinesh played for half a dozen teams

One of the most experienced wicketkeeper-batsmen in the IPL, Karthik has represented six teams in the IPL. After playing for Delhi Daredevils in 2008, he joined Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011. After playing the next two seasons for Mumbai Indians, he returned to Delhi in 2014 for a whopping Rs 12.5 crore. He was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 10.5 crore in 2015. He played for Gujarat in 2016 and 2017 and was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders for four seasons thereafter.

Finisher of T-20 Cricket

Under the leadership of Dinesh, Kolkata Knight Riders reached the IPL play-offs in 2018. In 2019, the team finished fifth in the points table. Dinesh was released from Karthik's contract by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2022. After this he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 5.5 crore. He excelled for RCB in 2022, playing mostly as a finisher.

Karthik scored 330 runs in 16 matches in 2022 at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33 and was instrumental in taking the team to the play-offs. On the strength of this performance, Karthik earned a place in the Indian squad for the ICC T-20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia. But he could not play as expected. Career of Dinesh Karthik

Currently away from cricket as a player, Dinesh has made a name for himself as a commentator. Dinesh has also done well in his international career. He made his debut in 2004 against Australia. Karthik has played 26 Tests. In this he scored 1025 runs. Along with this he took 57 catches and took six wickets. He last played a Test in 2018.

In ODIs, he scored 1752 runs in 94 matches between 2004 and 2019. He took 64 catches and seven stumpings. Karthik, who made his T20 debut in 2006, last played for India in 2022 against Bangladesh. He has scored 686 runs in 60 T20 Internationals. In this he took 30 catches and eight stumpings. He also participated in the recently held DY Patil T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai.
