Lok Sabha Election 2024: A look at the high profile contests

After the polling in the first phase, now the attention of the countrymen has turned to the high profile contests in the second phase. Along with three Union Ministers, the lives of two former Chief Ministers in Rajasthan will face the ordeal in this phase.

In the second phase, polling will be held in 8 seats in Maharashtra, 20 in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 6 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Bihar, 3 in Chhattisgarh, 3 in West Bengal, and one seat each in Jammu and Kashmir and Tripura. BJP has given ticket to Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He will have to compete with Congress candidate and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor. With both the leaders strong, this high-profile encounter is bound to get colorful. CPI means Communist Party of India has nominated Panyan Ravindran from here, while Bahujan Samaj Party has nominated Adv. Rajendran has been fielded. The math of victory here depends on who will benefit from the division of votes.

From Attigal Constituency in Kerala, BJP has fielded Union Minister of State V. Muralidharan has been fielded. Congress has nominated Adur Prakash against him. Communist Party V. Joy, while BSP Adv. Surbhi S. He has been given a chance. Although the BSP does not have much influence in Kerala, the votes it gets for its candidates could spoil the odds of major candidates winning.

Dushyant Singh Vs Urmila Jain

Jhalawar-Bara is a Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan which is considered to be the stronghold of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Since 2009, his Chiranjeev Dushyant Singh has been winning there. BJP has fielded him for the fourth time. Congress has fielded Urmila Jain against him, while BSP has fielded Chandrasinh Kirad. Congress may suffer from Kirad's candidature. Political observers say that Dushyant Singh should not face any problem in winning as this constituency has a large section of supporters of Vasundhara Raje.

Another interesting constituency in Rajasthan is Jalore. Congress has fielded former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's Chiranjeev Vaibhav from here. BJP has trusted Lumbaram against them. For the victory of Chiranjeeva, Ashok Gehlot's father has captured the entire constituency.

BJP has given ticket to Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat from Jodhpur constituency in Rajasthan. He is all set for a winning hat-trick, and against him, Congress has fielded Karan Singh Uchiyarda. BSP has given Manju Meghwal a chance. A total of fifteen candidates including six independents are in the fray. Here too, Karan Singh of Congress may get hit due to BSP.

Om Birla in the field for the third time

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is contesting from Kota constituency in Rajasthan for the third time on a BJP ticket. He won here in 2014 and 2019. It has to be seen whether he will score a hat-trick of victory this time. Congress has given ticket to Prahlad Gunjal and BSP to Dhanraj Yadav against him. A total of fifteen candidates including nine independents are in the fray.

Rajnandgaon constituency in Chhattisgarh is considered high profile. Congress has fielded former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel from here. The reputation of Baghel, who is a resident of Durg, is at stake in this election. He will have to fight with BJP's Santosh Pandey and BSP's Devlal Sinha. A total of 15 people are in the fray here, including seven independents. As Pandey is also a powerful candidate, this election has not been easy for Baghel.

Apart from this, in the second phase, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in Kerala, former Chief Minister H. from Mandya in Karnataka. D. Kumaraswamy, BJP youth MP Tejashwi Surya from Bangalore South, Yaduveer Krishnadutt Chamraj Wadiyar from royal family from Mysore, Dr. from Gautam Buddhanagar in Uttar Pradesh. Mahesh Sharma, Hema Malini from Mathure, Arun Govil from Meerut, Baahubali leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav from Purnia in Bihar are other candidates in the fray.
