Maxwell has faced a lot of criticism this season due to his poor form. He was not included in the squad for the match against Sunrisers. He was replaced by Will Jack in the playing XI. After the match, Maxwell explained that he himself had requested captain Faf du Plessis to give another player a chance instead of him.

'Take a break for mental and physical rest'

Speaking at the press conference, Maxwell said that his mental and physical condition is not good at present. So he has decided to rest. “It was a very easy decision for me personally,” Maxwell said after RCB's sixth defeat in seven matches. After the last match I went to Faf (du Plessis) and the coach. Told them that it's time to replace me with someone else in the team. You can keep playing and push yourself deeper into the darkness. However, I feel that now is really my chance to give myself a mental and physical break. If I need to play during the tournament, I hope to come back in strong mental and physical condition and try to make an impact.
