According to sources, changes are being made to the complex in the Parliament premises to facilitate vehicular movement around the new Parliament building and keeping in mind the need for security of important persons. After the incident of security breach in the winter session of the Parliament, along with increasing the security in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, many steps are being taken keeping in mind the need for the security of the very important persons in the Parliament complex, under which this proposal has come up and it is understood that the preparations for it have also started.
At present the Parliament complex consists of four grand buildings namely Old Parliament Building, New Parliament Building, Parliamentary Library Building and Extension Building. However, the need for change was being expressed in the background of the obstacles being faced in these buildings due to internal roads, fence walls. The changes are understood to include a proposal to remove redundant walls, bring statues of legends from different places in the complex to one place. It also reveals that the use of fully battery-powered vehicles will be made mandatory for MPs in the Parliament complex.
All the statues in the old Parliament House outside the central chamber and near the entrance to both houses will remain as they are now. The statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, Birsa Munda and other great men who are only in the outer area will be removed from their current location and placed together near the entrance number five of the existing Constitution Building.
