Two bouncers allowed
New rules have been introduced in Indian Premier League 2024. In the previous era, a bowler could bowl only one bouncer in an over; But now the same rule will be seen in IPL 2024 as BCCI allowed two bouncers in domestic cricket. BCCI introduced the rule of two bouncers in this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But, in T20 Internationals, the ICC allows one short ball to be bowled in an over; But at the same time there is a rule of two bouncers in Test and ODI cricket.
The rule of two referrals remains
Another notable rule is that the BCCI has retained the rule of checking the catch when there is a referral for stumping. There may be situations where the bat is seen to have touched the ball while checking for stumping. According to ICC rules, the third umpire cannot give a batsman a catch when there is a stumping appeal. That would be unfair. Therefore, the BCCI has decided to stick to the old rule, the board official explained. Apart from that, like last year, a team can take two referrals and they can ask for wide and no ball as well. But, the stop clock rule recently announced by the ICC will not be seen in this year's IPL.
