Oscar Award-winning composer AR Rahman (57) and his wife Saira Banu (47) are separating after nearly three decades of marriage. Saira announced divorce from her husband on Tuesday night. Saira's lawyer Vandana Shah has demanded privacy from everyone.
The statement said- 'The decision has been taken after emotional tension in the relationship. 'Despite their deep love, the couple found that the tensions and difficulties in their relationship had created a rift between them.'
Saira has also emphasized that she has taken this decision due to the pain and suffering present in their relationship.
Rehman-Saira's marriage took place in 1995
AR Rahman married Saira on 12 March 1995. Saira was 28 years old then. It was an arranged marriage. Both of them have two daughters Khatija-Rahima and a son Amin. AR Rahman had revealed in a chat show of Simmi Grewal that his mother had fixed his marriage with Saira.
Rehman had told that he did not have time to search for a bride. But, they knew this was the right time to get married. He was then 29 years old and had told his mother – 'Find a bride for me.'
The couple's son Amin wrote in Instagram Stories, “We request everyone to respect our privacy at this time.”
