29 whales die off the coast of Australia

Canberra, News Agency: 29 pilot whales, a species of dolphin fish, have died off the coast of Australia. About 160 whales were beached at Pia Cortis. 130 of these whales have been saved. The whales are being monitored with the help of planes and boats to prevent them from beaching again. Marine experts say that pilot whales can only survive for six hours after beaching.

Now the sample of pilot whale fish is going to be tested. That would explain how the fish ended up on the beach in such large numbers, whether the pilot whales included female whales. Pilot whales are very social. They care a lot about each other. In particular, when a whale falls ill or becomes stranded on shore, other whales rush to their aid. Over the past few years there has been a steady increase in pilot whale deaths off the coast of Australia and New Zealand. In July last year, about 100 pilot whales beached in Australia and 51 of them died.

On the other hand, 55 pilot whales were killed in Scotland last year. Around 500 pilot whales died in two separate incidents in New Zealand in 2022.
